Collins Aerospace: Spearheading R&D and Innovation
13 Jan 2025
How many flights operate worldwide each day? At least 100,000 flights per day. India has about 6,000 flight movements daily; and the traffic is growing by leaps and bounds with new airports emerging. Is not it wonderful that so many subsystems work right every time when “big machines” fly? That is because engineers and hashtag scientists work diligently and innovatively to bring convenience, comfort and safety. One such star company is Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of Raytheon (RTX).
It was gratifying to visit Collins Aerospace Bangalore new campus on its internal innovation week celebration. As chief guest address, I shared my thoughts on “Spearheading R&D and Innovation” to 500+ attendees across countries. Thanks to VP Savyasachi Srinivas and Sr. Technical Fellow Adishesha CS for the invite. And it was an engaging followup panel with them and Dr.Pradipta Biswas on “Innovation in rapidly changing environment”.
The center has cumulatively created 600+ intellectual properties with a mix of patents and tradesecrets. Walking the aisle gives a glimpse of these patents. Appreciate Ashok Kumar Thirunarayana for taking me through special labs. When we consider product sku, cost, weather, even apparently simple “windshield wiper” can have innovation with 30+ patents ! Enriching to know biz verticals from Director Paramjit Bhatia. Final touch was meeting a few of the 20 CTOCrest (www.ctoleadership.com) mentees attended over three cohorts and learning that they are doing well, with promotion and more responsibility.
